BRAZILIAN ECONOMIC GROWTH (2017 and 2018)
- Automobilie production in Brazil increased by 25.2% in 2017 (2.7 million units).
- Brazil car production should increase by 45% from 2018-2022 (to 3.2 million units), according to IHS Market.
- Brazil closed 2017 with an increase of 37% in the production of trucks, with strong performance in exportation.
- Production for heavy vehicles (trucks and buses) is predicted to grow by 16.2% in 2018 according to ANFAVEA.
RECENT INVESTMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS (AUTOMOTIVE MARKET)
- Renault will invest over USD $220 million in their plant in Paraná, Brazil.*
- General Motors announces that it will invest over USD $420 million in its Automotive Industrial Complex in Gravataí, Brazil (which is part of GM’s projected USD $4 billion investment in Brazil between 2014-2019).*
- Volkswagen will invest
in the Achieta plant in São Bernardo do Campo (São Paulo), according to David Powels, President and CEO of Volkswagen Brazil and South America. The investment will cover technology upgrades in the entire productive process in the factory.*
- GM announces new investments of over USD $900 million in its plants in São Caetano do Sul and Joinville in Brazil, which is part of its USD $4 billion investment in Brazil between 2014 – 2020.
- Toyota announces two new investments in their two plants in Brazil for a total of USD $500 million, in order to increase their local production capacity.
- Mercedes-Benz will invest USD $750,000 in Brazil from 2018-2022 in order to modernize their their two truck and bus plants in the country, preparing the production facilities for Industry 4.0.
- Iveco announces its new investment of USD $120 million over the next two years in Brazil for new product development.
- DAF plans to invest over USD $15 million in its Brazilian manufacturing facilities for the engineering and product development of its two new models (CF85 and XF105).
- The auto parts industry in Brazil expects to receive USD $2.5 billion in new investments in 2018 (YOY increase of 70%), according to Sindipeças.
- Volkswagen intends to double their production capacity in Brazil by 2020, reaching 800,000 units.
- Chery will invest USD $2.6 billion in their production line and new vehicle development (ex. Caoa Chery) at their Jacareí plant (São Paulo).
